Jesse Blake Amar: Biography Jesse Blake Amar’s sculptures explore the myths and mythologies of various world cultures past and present finding in them inspiration for his allegoric sculptures. Using the lost-wax method in his own small foundry, Amar with the help of his assistants cast his sculptures in bronze, iron and precious metals, creating one-of-a-kind sculptures as well as several limited edition series. Amar was born in New York City in 1969, and raised in Gloucester, Massachusetts where he still spends his summers. He graduated in 1987 from the Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts before earning his Bachelor of Arts at Swarthmore College in Philadelphia in 1991. He later earned his Master of Fine Arts degree at American University in Washington, DC in 1996. Amar has exhibited, taught, and lectured in many institutions of higher learning including: American University, the Chautauqua Institution School of Art, Dartmouth College, Earlham College, Edinboro University of PA, Haverford College, and Swarthmore College. He has been teaching sculpture and humanities at Thiel College in western Pennsylvania since 2000 and is currently an Associate Professor and Chair of the Art Department. |
